Mayors Gather for Summit with Governor and Her Staff
The Governor's office, in conjunction with the League, hosted the 2nd Annual Mayor and Governor's Summit. This Summit provides an opportunity for city and town mayors and the Governor to discuss issues that are important to local governments and the state. During the Summit, the Governor introduced her 10 point growth plan as one of her priorities for the coming term. The Governor and mayors also had a frank discussion regarding issues impacting cities and towns. Read more
 
League Staff Met with Freshmen Legislators
Ken Strobeck and League staff met with newly elected legislators during their freshman orientation at the Capitol. The group of legislators came by the League for lunch and to learn about city and town issues. Ken gave a brief overview of the League and important issues to cities and towns. This was the first time the League has been on the orientation agenda for freshman legislators and was an excellent way to introduce ourselves and city and town issues to them.

Phoenix Selected to Host National League of Cities' Convention in 2011
The National League of Cities (NLC) today announced the 2011 Congress of Cities Conference and Exposition will be held in Phoenix, Arizona. The five-day conference, tentatively schedule for November, is expected to bring 6,000 municipal officials from around the country together to share new ideas and learn from one another. The conference is expected to generate between $8 and $10 million in revenues for Phoenix and surrounding areas. Read more
 
Arizona Delegates Travel to Reno for NLC
Over 100 Arizona delegates traveled to Reno for the National League of Cities meeting. The Conference brought together city and town officials from across the country. As usual, Arizona had a strong showing at the meeting. The League would like to congratulate Michael Johnson, Councilmember of Phoenix, for his election to the NLC Board of Directors. Councilmember Johnson now joins fellow Arizonans Joseph Donaldson, Mayor of Flagstaff, Shirley Scott, Council Member of Tucson and the League's Executive Director Ken Strobeck on the NLC Board of Directors. During the event, the League also hosted a reception for the Arizona delegates in attendance.

Tempe's Crisis Response Team Lauded Nationally
For the last decade, a dedicated group of staff and volunteers responds whenever tragedy strikes in Tempe, comforting victims and families in the aftermath of incidents like sexual assault, homicide, robbery, suicide, drowning, domestic violence and fire. Selflessly, they respond - sometimes in the middle of the night - and never seek praise or recognition. Despite their modesty, accolades keep coming. Read more
 
National Study Gives Chandler Website its Highest Score
The City of Chandler has been given an A+ for its e-government efforts in a national study conducted by the National Policy Research Council. The group reviewed 11,227 official state and local Web sites. Chandler was the only Arizona city to receive an A+, and just one in four U.S. cities with populations between 50,001 and 250,000 to do so. Read more
 
National Academy of Public Administration Intergovernmental Forum Report: Financing Governments in the 21st Century
Globalization, advances in technology, an aging population, structural fiscal imbalances, and a shift to a knowledge-based economy are some of the major economic and social forces putting pressure on revenue systems and public finance, according to the Intergovernmental Forum on Revenue Systems. 2007 Arizona Municipal Clerks' Institute and Academy
The Arizona Master Municipal Clerks' Academy (MMCA) provides education and professional development, to address the need for continuous learning, in an ever-changing environment. The Academy is open to practicing municipal clerks following CMC certification. Entrance into the Academy requires evidence of post-Certification study and service to the Municipal Clerk profession and the community. Read more
