How to Become More Involved this Legislative Session
Each legislative session the League provides a number of services and publications
to assist Arizona cities in communicating more effectively and monitoring issues
that affect their local communities.
Legislative Days
Throughout the legislative session, the League offers city and town officials the
opportunity to host a Legislative Day, where you get an opportunity to discuss important
issues over a private lunch with your legislators. The League provides a convenient
meeting space, a catered lunch, and can work with you on the meeting arrangements.
Contact Stephanie Prybyl at
sprybyl@azleague.org or 602-258-5786 to schedule your
2010 Legislative Day.
Municipal Policy Statement
The 2010 Municipal Policy Statements are in. This document will aid you in discussing
with your legislators some of the important issues municipalities face this year. There
is also a listing of legislators and the cities and towns they represent. Each city and
town should have received theirs by now, but if you need to access it online,
Your Voice at the Capitol
Each session the League staff prepares "Your Voice at the Capitol," which is a listing of state legislators by district, their contact information and the
cities and towns they represent. To view "Your Voice at the Capitol" click here.
Legislative Bulletin
Every week during the session, we issue our weekly Legislative Bulletin, which summarizes
legislative activity on bills of concern to municipalities. If you are not on our distribution
list and would like to receive a copy, please contact Dale Wiebusch at
dwiebusch@azleague.org or 602-258-5786.
Town Hall Meetings
An effective way to encourage interaction with your legislators is to invite your
delegation to come to a local meeting sponsored by your city/town or another group.
Town hall meetings provide an excellent forum for your legislators to learn more about
the issues affecting your community. For example, the Mayor and Councilmembers of
Douglas recently participated in a successful town hall meeting that was attended by
the city's entire delegation. The meeting addressed issues for the upcoming
legislative session and their potential impact on the City of Douglas.
