The 2010 legislative session is quickly approaching. The first day of the 49th legislature,
2nd Regular Session is January 11, 2010. This day is generally ceremonial, culminating in
the Governor's State of the State address. This event is held on the House floor with limited
viewing space from the gallery. If you would like to attend, please contact your legislative
delegation for tickets or contact the League for assistance.
From then on, most of the focus will be on correcting an estimated $1.6B budget shortfall.
The League and many cities and towns are already meeting with policy makers to stress how
important shared revenue is to the state. Cities and towns are the economic engines that
generate tax revenues and our services, such as public safety, transportation, parks and
libraries, provide value to citizens. It is critical to the state and local governments
that municipalities receive our share of those revenues back to maintain the quality communities
that Arizonans want. Please continue this dialogue with your legislators, local business leaders
and citizens about how shared revenue benefits the state as a whole.
